Getting some serious inspiration this week for upcoming photo sessions from these old Vogue covers. I’m loving the graphic compositions, voluminous shapes and bold colors.

The story behind them started when friends and clients would always say how it’s too bad I couldn’t take my own wedding photos. So we thought to ourselves, since my personal work is self-portraiture, that we could at least try to do a ‘self-portrait engagement session’… and I have to say even though it’s nothing like having your own photographer, I was still pretty surprised at the results! It was definitely a challenge and involved us running around old medieval cities into the early hours of the morning, but we had a lot of giggles along the way.

Most of these were taken in cities near Barcelona; we had them practically all to ourselves since it was off-season. We wandered along the cliffs of beach towns where the wind smelled like pine, got lost in the winding back lanes of old cities, visited awe-inspiring cathedrals, and picnicked in Roman ruins. It was like one giant photographer’s playground!

Some of you may know that not too long ago my boyfriend and I decided to escape our Canadian winter and ran off to Spain for the month of February. Well, not only did we enjoy shedding our winter skins, eating tapas, and speaking our broken Spanish with the locals… we also got engaged! Haig proposed to me in Barcelona right at the beginning of our trip, and we had the rest of the month to enjoy all the romance of being newly engaged, not to mention being in all these amazing old cities full of history!
